Here’s an example of our legitimate emails from DreamIT Host and trusted DreamIT Host Partners.
Tips to Easily Spot a Scam/Phishing Email
Even if the email looks right, scammers can be sneaky. Always check for these warning signs:
- Check the From Address:
- What to do: Don't just look at the name they use (like "DreamIT Host Support"). Look closely at the actual email address it came from. Is it coming from an official DreamIT Host address or a trusted partner? Scammers will often utilise similar looking domain names to deceive end-users.
- Watch Out for Urgent Warnings or Threats:
- What to do: Be suspicious if the email creates a sense of urgency, such as you MUST act NOW, threatens to close your account, mentions a security problem, or says your service will stop unless you click a link straight away.
- Example: "Urgent! Verify your details in 24 hours or your account will be shut down!"
- Be cautious of providing personal information:
- What to do: Logging into the MyDreamIT Portal and making updates to personal details including payment details is the best way to maintain your account through a secure platform. Avoid providing any payment details via email, especially if you suspect it’s a potential scam. You can always check with our support team if you’re ever unsure.
- Warning: Don't ever type your login or bank details on a page you got to by clicking an email link unless you're 100% sure it's legit. Always check the URL before you log in to ensure it’s legitimate.
- Hover Over Links Before Clicking:
- What to do: Put your mouse pointer over any link in the email but don't click it. Look at the bottom corner of your screen – it should show you the real website address the link goes to.
- Check: Does the website address look weird? Does it go somewhere that isn't
dreamithost.com.au
or my.dreamithost.com.au for logging in or checking your account? If the link saysdreamithost.com.au
but the address that pops up when you hover is different, it's a scam.
- Think Twice About Unexpected Attachments:
- What to do: Be very careful opening attachments you didn't ask for, especially files ending in
.zip
,.exe
, or even.pdf
or.doc
. They can hide nasty viruses. - Tip: We usually send invoices as PDF files, but if anything seems odd, contact our support team before opening it.
- What to do: Be very careful opening attachments you didn't ask for, especially files ending in
- Look at the Greeting:
- What to do: Emails starting with vague greetings like "Dear Customer," or "Hello User," can sometimes be scams. We often address our clients by their name.
- Check for Bad Spelling and Grammar:
- What to do: Everyone makes typos sometimes, but scam emails often have lots of spelling mistakes, weird sentences, or just sound wrong.
- Trust Your Gut:
- What to do: If an email just feels weird, suspicious, or too good to be true (like offering a huge discount if you click a strange link right now), it probably is a scam.

- Notice the sending email address is from a non-official address.
- The email doesn't have your name specifically
- The URL is a non-official website
